Call for Papers

We cordially invite interested persons to participate in the 2008 International Symposium
on Agricultural Education for Sustainable Development (AgESD Symposium 2008) from
November 4 to 11, 2008 at the University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba, Japan. The Agricultural and Forestry
Research Center, University of Tsukuba (AFRC-UT) as an
Associated Centre of Asia and the Pacific Programme of Educational Innovative Development (APEID) is sponsoring
this symposium as a kick off meeting for the APEID 8th Programme Cycle (2008-2013). The goal of the symposium is
to discuss the present situation and roles of universities and institutions in education for sustainable
development (ESD) particularly focusing on agriculture (Ag). Expert keynote and guest speakers will be invited
from UNESCO and several institutions and universities from Asian and Pacific countries. Presently,
Mohammad Noor Akbary, Member of International Affair Commission for the Afghanistan National Assembly;
Dr. David Atchoarena, Senior Program Specialist for International Institute for Educational Planning and
Professor Shuichi Nakayama, Hiroshima University of Economics, have agreed to attend as keynote speakers.
This event is an ideal platform for participants to discuss and gain insights into the challenges of education
for sustainable development in agriculture. This is a call for high quality, original poster presentations for
the symposium.
Please submit a 500 word abstract describing your proposed poster presentation by
August 31, 2008 to the organizing committee of AgESD Symposium 2008
(agesd_internship@nourin.tsukuba.ac.jp). All abstracts will be
thoroughly reviewed by experts in the field and the top papers will be selected for oral presentations.
Contributors may also submit a paper for publication in the
Journal of Developments in Sustainable Agriculture if
they first receive approval from the organizing committee. The journal can be freely accessed at
http://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/browse/jdsa/.
Funding is not available to support travel or expenses of general participants.
